Ziplining! An activity that is incredibly popular here in Latin America among tourists and visitors. We’ve been asked over and over again about where you can go ziplining, so we’re putting it in a post! There are tons of places to zipline near Playa del Carmen, and we’ve done a little work for you to figure out where to go!
Why We love Ziplining
Ziplining is an awesome activity, especially here in the Riviera Maya. We’ll get to that in a moment, though. One of the reasons we love ziplines so much is that it almost never fails to entertain large groups. It can get some adrenaline going, give nature-lovers a new look at the jungle, and is gentle and friendly enough for the whole family in many cases.
Although ziplines are often high up and some can be fast, it’s pretty darn safe. It’s not quite skydiving or bungee jumping, but still may provide a little adrenaline for the adventurers in your family. On the other hand, the professional staff, security mechanisms, and safety procedures make it painless and safe!
We’ve ziplined all over: Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Belize, California, New York, Canada, Sri Lanka, and so on. Every place you zipline offers something new. Here in Mexico, you can zipline above the beautiful jungle canopy. The Yucatan Peninsula is incredibly flat, so you can see over the treetops for miles and miles.
Zipline Tours in Playa
There are tons of activities and tours in Playa del Carmen. A quick walk down 5th Avenue will give you a taste of the tourist industry here. With so much to do, ziplining is one thing that really stands out for us. Whether you’ve been before or not, the Riviera Maya is a great place to do it! Here are a few ways you can go on a zipline tour from Playa del Carmen.
Our favorite zipline tour from Playa del Carmen is a wonderful experience. The tour includes a full day, and the guides (Pedro is our go-to) are just wonderful. You will snorkel in underwater cenotes, rappel into a beautiful cenote, get to ride 4×4’s through the jungle, and take a few different ziplines!
There’s another ATV, snorkel, and zipline tour that we recommend right here in Playa. Like the tour above, transportation and equipment are all included. All you need to do is be ready for pickup and adventure, and you’re all set!
If you want to head a little bit south and check out the area of Tulum, you can try this tour below. This Tulum zipline tour includes a little canoe ride, swimming in a natural cenote, and a visit with the turtles native to the area! The surrounding area down in Tulum is beautiful, and this is a wonderful place for your adventure!
Parks With Ziplines
Several of the parks have ziplines, which is a great way to go. At the eco-parks here in the Mayan Riviera, you can do a zipline and find tons of other activities. One of our favorite parks that is lesser known, relatively quiet, and beautiful is Aktun Chen. You can learn about this park and why we love it at https://therivieramaya.org/aktun-chen/.
The popular parks Xplor and Xel-Ha also have ziplines! Xel-Ha is one of the better-known parks, but still one of our favorites. You can compare it to the other popular park, Xcaret, in our post Xel-Ha vs Xcaret – Choosing Your Adventure Park.
Finally, there is Selvatica. This is a highly-rated little park that has relatively low traffic. To be honest, we’ve never been! However, we have had many friends and family members visit, and absolutely loved it. It’s a bit out of town, up toward Puerto Morelos. The park has great reviews, and we’ve heard wonderful stories from those who have visited.
