
The 9 Top Things to Do in Sayulita, Mexico
Sayulita is one of my favorite little towns in Mexico. It’s become more popular in recent years, and is a haven for yogis and meditators. Located in the state of Nayarit, Sayulita is located just north of the popular tourist destination of Puerto Vallarta. There are many great things to do in Sayulita and the surrounding area, making it a perfect place to visit if you’re looking for a relaxing vacation. It makes our list of the 13 Best Places to Visit in Mexico this Year, and is one of our favorite places in Mexico to visit.
Best Things to Do in Sayulita
1. Go Surfing
Sayulita is known as a popular surf spot. The surf in Sayulita draws visitors from around the world, and it’s a great place to surf whether you’re brand new or an experienced surfer. There are many great teachers and trainers, so you can learn to surf in Sayulita if you’re in town. There are 4 day training camps or you can take individual lessons.
2. Ride an ATV
Any visit to Mexico should involve some adrenaline. Riding an ATV is a fantastic activity, and you can take guided tours around the Sayulita area. Unlike taking an ATV out by yourself where you live, you will have the opportunity to drive through jungles, along beaches, and to beautiful spots not accessible otherwise. You can take a guided ATV tour to be safe, and get the adrenaline pumping as you hit the trails with a guide.
3. Go Ziplining
Almost everywhere we go in Mexico, we go ziplining. It’s simply one of the best things to do in Sayulita. You can take a canopy tour to see a new perspective of the surrounding area. Strap into a harness, and fly among the treetops from platform to platform. It offers a bit of excitement, while giving you the opportunity to spend some time outside and in the beautiful environment of the west coast of Mexico. 4. See the Whales
During winter months, humpback whales migrate to the area to breed. The whale watching in Sayulita is unlike any other experience you’ll have. Any Sayulita vacation during winter months should absolutely include a trip to see these beautiful creatures in their native environment. 5. Ride Horses on the Beach
If you like horses, you have to go horseback riding while visiting Sayulita. Take some time out from your life to chill on the beach and in the jungle as you ride horses with a trained guide. Horseback riding is a powerful way to relax, connect with nature, and see the surrounding area. Although it may not seem like the most exciting adventure, it is sure to create lasting memories. 6. Snorkel off the Marietas Islands
The Marietas are famous islands just off the coast of Western Mexico. A World Heritage Site, Isla Marietas National Park is comprised of a few islands just a few miles from mainland. The marine life here is unlike any other, and the lands are protected from fishing and hunting. Any trip to Sayulita must include at least a day visit to the Marietas. 7. Check Out Local Artisans
Sayulita is a community of artists and creative individuals. You can find some amazing art galleries in Sayulita with powerful local artists. If you’re visiting Sayulita on vacation, make sure to go around town and check out some of the local art galleries, artisans, and creativity going on. Places like La Casa del Artista, Galleria Dante, and Tierra Huichol offer a deep look at local art from the area.
8. Try the Food in Sayulita
Like many places in Mexico, Sayulita has some pretty amazing food. There are upscale restaurants at the hotels just out of town, and street vendors selling some of the freshest food you’re going to find. One thing I love to do is go into town in the morning to get some fresh tortillas. If you think you’ve tasted authentic Mexican food, you don’t know what you’re missing until you try some of the warm and fresh food in Sayulita!
9. Get Your Calm On
Finally, take some time to chill out. Sayulita is a community known for meditation and yoga centers. Take some time to take a meditation class on the beach, stretch the mind and body in a yoga class, or go to one of the many quality spas in the area.
