The small town of Puerto Morelos has many things to offer. Located in the heart of the Riviera Maya, Puerto Morelos made our list of the best places to snorkel in Mexico. Its coral reef is a marine park, and the reef is well-preserved and relatively healthy.
Puerto Morelos is just 35 kilometers north of Playa del Carmen, and easy to get to from Cancun as well. The small fishing village has grown significantly with tourism in the past decade, especially due to the presence of the reefs offshore.
Snorkeling in Puerto Morelos is one of the most popular things to do. You can take a tour out to see the best spots on the reef, rent some gear and go yourself, or just bring your own mask and fins and get in the water. Near the beach, you can find restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores, and dive shops. If you do decide to swim out to the reef, keep in mind that its a few hundred meters!
