Hotels in Playa del Carmen
There are many places to stay during your time in Playa del Carmen. Here are a few places we recommend. We are not affiliated with any of these hotels, but these are places we know and encourage you to check out. We’ve listed them from the most economical to the more expensive. Prices of course may vary, so this is done to reflect general pricing.
Real de Carmen
Real de Carmen is down at the south end of Playacar, the gated community at the south end of Playa del Carmen. This small condo complex has a few rooms for you to stay in that offer an apartment-style home on your vacation. There is a small pool for kids, a full pool, a terrace, and it is an easy walk right to the beach. If you are looking for a place to stay where you can have a kitchen and feel at home, check out the Real de Carmen. Rooms start at about $70.
Hotel 52
Hotel 52 is located between 5th Avenue and 10th Avenue up on Calle 52 (hence the name of the hotel). This is probably one of the best values in Playa del Carmen in our opinion. Although it is on the cheaper end, you will still find friendly staff, clean rooms, and help getting to and from different activities and excursions. Rooms start at about $60 in the quieter seasons, and $80 in the high season.
Mamitas Village
Mamitas Village is a collection of condominiums up on 32nd Street on the beach. With oceanfront condos, beach chairs and umbrellas, and a hopping little beach club, Mamitas Village is a popular spot on the water in Playa del Carmen. The hotel is pretty simple, and condo units are comfortable and clean. The condo style hotel offers a lot of room and space, all for about $100/night to start. Be aware that there’s a bit of construction in the area currently during the day, so if noise is a huge factor you may want to skip. Otherwise we love Mamitas Village!
Pueblito Luxury Condohotel
This is actually a condo complex and there are several different hotels organizations operating. Pueblito is a pretty laid-back, located up on Calle 38. They have gyms, massages, and private condos for you or your family. Run by Original Resorts, this hotel is one of our favorite little secrets in Playa, and it is where we often recommend for our own family and friends. Reservations will run you from $80-120 a night to start.
The 5th Avenue Hotel
The 5th Avenue Hotel is in the heart of Playa del Carmen, just steps from 5th Avenue. The main draw is certainly its location, but the hotel also has clean rooms, a beautiful rooftop, and no front desk. The setup is closer to suites or condos, so it feels nice and private. Rooms here can be anywhere from $150-250 a night.
Catalonia Privileged Maroma
The Catalonia Privileged Maroma is up at Punta Maroma, north of Playa del Carmen. The hotel has great food, a popular terrace restaurant, and swim up bars. People rave about the staff and kindness here. It’s both relaxing and luxurious, and we strongly recommend checking it out for a romantic or quiet getaway. Rooms start at about $200, but their more expensive rooms can run up into the $500+ range.
Panama Jack
Panama Jack is a well-known hotel run by Playa Hotels & Resorts. It is located at the end of Avenido Constituyentes, right in the middle of the action. Sitting on the beach, Panama Jack offers activities, restaurants, and the full resort experience. It is known as one of the more laid-back resorts in town, and is great for individuals, couples, or families. Rooms at Panama Jack in Playa del Carmen usually start in the $200-250 range.
Generations Riviera Maya
Generations Riviera Maya is located up north of Playa in the luxury hotel zone. Known to be one of the most family-friendly hotels in the area, Generations offers a full set of activities and excursions. Their team provides entertainment, guides, and all you need to enjoy your time during your stay. Prices can vary greatly. During some times of year, rooms may run as low as $200, while the general price is around $300 to start.
Artisan Playa Paraíso
Artisan Playa Paraiso is a bit north of Playa del Carmen, up where a few of the luxury hotels may be found. This adults-only all-inclusive resort is known for its activities, food (made to order, no buffets), and spacious accomodations. They have a shuttle to take you into town, and the distance from the action can provide a perfect romantic getaway. Rooms at Artisan Playa Paraiso start at around $350.
Playacar Palace
Playacar Palace is a part of the well-respected Palace Resorts® family. It’s located just south of Parque Fundadores, and is the first major hotel on the beach of Playacar. It’s one of the most popular all-inclusive resorts in Playa del Carmen, and a fixture of the hotel scene. Located far enough away from the action to offer some peace and quiet, it also is close enough to the center of town for you to walk or ride your bike easily. Rooms at the Playacar Palace generally start at $400-450.
